As you will be aware here at Murray Hills Solicitors our chosen charity of the year is MNDa Scarborough & Bridlington group and as part of our fundraising we are producing a 2020 charity pet calendar. This went very well and the final 12 pets have been announced with Amber (pictured above) being the winner of the voting.
What you wont know is that Amber’s mum sadly passed away from MND making her inclusion in the calendar even more poignant – here is Amber’s story.
On 21st November 2017, Amber’s human mum Julie was sadly diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
Over the course of the next 12 months Julie’s condition deteriorated rapidly, but she could always rely on Amber to keep a watchful eye on her. If Julie fell Amber would make sure everyone knew Julie needed help by crying out; if Julie displayed pain Amber would be by her side offering comfort; and when the ambulance service was called Amber would keep an eye on how they handled Julie to ensure they didn’t cause her discomfort.
Despite her condition, Julie’s sense of humour never changed and she loved to sneak treats for Amber that she would hide down the side of her chair or under a cushion waiting until she was alone to pamper her.
Julie was cared for by her family during her illness; her husband Mark, and children Lee, Adam and Jemma, her Mum and Dad along with her sister Alison provided care, love and much needed support. Whilst they were all a constant at her side, Julie always had Amber there as her bedside companion.
Amber’s soft and gentle nature was a comfort to Julie throughout, and as her condition progressed, Amber’s care and attention increased. Her antics though as a fun loving, mischievous boxer continued and would always ensure the family were still able to witness Julie’s beautiful beaming smile.
Sadly, Julie passed away on 11th December 2018.
Amber has been to visit Julie at the church where she was laid to rest and throughout her visit sat alongside Julie’s grave whimpering as though she was crying for Julies passing. Remarkably as she left the churchyard Amber also stooped down to lick the gravestone; one final kiss for her beloved “mum”.
We hope you can see just how special Amber is, not only has her beauty and poise won her place in our calendar, but her loving nature and story has won her place in our hearts.
Our local MNDa group offer a warm welcome, friendship, information and advice for people with MND. Not everyone is lucky enough to have an Amber by their side but the group is there to support people living with MND as well as their families and part of our mission is to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease Association and let you know that you are not alone.
Our calendar is now on pre order and at only £5 each and all profit going to the local group we know you will love them
