Murray Hills Solicitors are very proud to sponsor
Disability Sports Humber.
Disability Sports Humber are the biggest charity in the Humber area supporting disabled people in sport. They do this in a variety of ways including grants enabling disabled people to keep playing sports, helping with funds for various clubs and holding events to showcase the achievements of disabled people in sports.
Friday 19th May saw one such event being the 4th annual Disability Sports Humber Awards, which has grown to be the largest awards of its kind in the region. The three course dinner, fundraiser and awards evening was held at KCOM Stadium to a packed crowd of 381 people all of who had attended to raise awareness of the need to bridge the funding gap for disabled sports and to celebrate the fantastic achievements of all those involved.
Daryl Jones charity manager said
“In 2017, we have seen over 50 disabled people forced to give up sport because of lack of funding in the Hull and Humber area. Disability Sports Humber, to date, have supported over 300 disabled people to remain in sport but we need your support to keep them in sport”
The evening included a total of 20 awards which included Young Female Player of the Year, sponsored by Murray Hills Solicitors, which recognised someone aged 18 and under who has a disability and takes part in an inclusive sports club or is a member of a sports team.
Mr Keith Murray, managing Director if Murray Hills said
“We read the incredible stories and nominations for our category, it was a very difficult task to choose a winner from those shortlisted but also our absolute pleasure to announce and present the trophy on the night to Megan Hought an amazing 8 year old who is part of East Riding Kickboxing Club.”
The charity set their most ambitious target to date hoping to raise huge £15,000 on the night, with £5 donation envelopes, a raffle and a charity auction for an array of sporting memorabilia being donated from businesses and clubs. Murray Hills Solicitors, who have sponsored an award for the past two years, also pledged an extra £500.00 on the night and by the end of the evening Disability Sports Humber had raised the amazing £15,000 target.
The whole event showcased the outstanding accomplishments, success and determination of everyone involved in disabled sports with a wonderful night of applause and praise.
